Who invented Diagonalis?
Behind Diagonalis is the minava, Kunst & Spiele GmbH – or more precisely, Rolf Rütter and his passion for handmade wooden toys crafted from high-quality materials.
Many years ago, Rolf began building wooden toys for his own children. In his workshop, new games and toys were constantly created with patience, curiosity, and craftsmanship. Over time, the children grew older and the handmade toys gradually found their way into the attic.
A few years later, when the children had become parents themselves, the wooden toys returned to the living room – this time into the hands of Rolf’s grandchildren. Inspired by their enthusiasm, he returned to his workbench and started tinkering, experimenting, and developing new game ideas once again. That is how Diagonalis came to life.
With its unique design, this wooden marble run is more than just a durable toy: it is the result of many years of family play experience, countless small experiments in the workshop, and the joy of constantly inventing new paths for the marble. And so, step by step, in Oberburg in the Emmental region a game emerged that invites players to experiment, think creatively, and build something new over and over again.
But personal resources are limited, while the potential of the marble run is enormous. That’s why Rolf decided to share his idea and expertise with a carefully selected production partner, allowing Diagonalis to make its way from the workshop into many more living rooms and children’s hands.
Who produces the wooden marble run?
With the Brändi foundation, Rolf found not only a producer of high-quality products, but also a partner that shares and supports the values behind Diagonalis.
Alongside Swiss production, the quality of the materials plays a key role. The premium wood used for the marble run has been carefully selected to ensure that Diagonalis is a durable and robust toy that brings joy for many years – from one generation to the next.
Since not all elements of the marble run are made of wood, sustainability was also carefully considered for the remaining components. The small insert tiles are made from non-toxic foam and coloured with child-safe, pollutant-free paints.
But who exactly is the Brändi foundation?
The Brändi foundation is committed to the inclusion of people with primarily cognitive or psychological disabilities in work, society, and culture. Across nine different facilities in the canton of Lucerne, the Brändi foundation provides around 1,100 protected workplaces and training positions. Diagonalis is carefully manufactured in one of these production facilities.
